Peculiar Portraits of Improbable People - Anytime Access Class
Peculiar Portraits of Improbable People - Anytime Access Class
Portraits from the olden days are the best. Frilly collars, fantastical hairdos, beauty marks, and other bits of flamboyant absurdity abound. Let’s take those portraits on step further and make them even more bizarre. Perhaps three eyes instead of two, or an impossibly long neck, maybe and asparagus head. Well that is what this class is all about. We will take old photos and transform them with a combination of collage and paint…ant then make them and the frame that holds them even stranger using a variety of found objects and the process of assemblage. By the end of this Art class you have a series of portraits of unusual people you’d never normally meet. Get the picture?
Student Level : All levels (beginner, intermediate, advanced)
Supply List
Frame, box or interesting found object you wand to use as the base. You can work any size but I’ll be working on items about 8”x10” or smaller. The base/frames should be interesting or ornate and could be any shape. IF YOU’RE USING A FRAME MAKE SURE IT HAS A BACKING! This is what we will build up onto.
Collage elements of people. This will be the main subject that will be modified. Photos, photocopies, cabinet cards, or prints of characters you want to transform. I’d recommend printing a variety of images to choose from. If you have a printer you’re using…Laser print is the best. Ink Jet might run on you. If you only have an inkjet you might consider having photocopies made instead.
More Collage Elements. Maps, book pages, ore design patters make nice background images.
Variety of found objects that might be interesting additions Items like, dolls, watch parts, gears, typewriter parts, milagros, bolts, pieces of old metal, straps of leather, dried out spaghetti…anything.
